Footnotes

  1. If something is imperative (adjective) that means it’s very important and/or urgent. An imperative (noun) is a part of grammar, or an order, a command: e.g. ‘Go to bed!’ or ‘Be attentive!’ ↩︎
  2. Strikingly similar means both very similar, and also that the similarity strikes us or hits us – it gets our attention. E.g. Have you seen the twins? They’re strikingly similar! ↩︎
  3. An exposition is a clear description and explanation of something. ↩︎
  4. To discern is to see something that is difficult to see. Discernment in the Christian sense is the process of discerning the will of God. ↩︎

Hello

Welcome to Catholic English, the service for people who want to learn English with the saints.

“Faith comes by hearing” (Romans 10:17) and so does language.

Every day we have to fight for time and strength to fulfil all our responsibilities, for our relationships with others, for time for prayer, for forgiveness, for mercy, for Love. If we want to learn English as well, we must seek the grace of God to help us with that goal, as with our other life goals.

We hope that you will find some useful resources here to help you on your journey towards speaking English. Please explore the site and sign up to the newsletter to receive updates.

May God’s graces be with you always.
